Winter and Spring Program

Our Winter/Spring season is a very busy time. We run both a recreational camp and a competitive program.

Competitive Program:

The competitive program starts the first Monday of December and runs until mid-May or mid-June, depending on how our season goes. This is for anyone entering 8th-12th grade from any town in the Southern New Jersey or Philadelphia region.

From December through March, our athletes train 6 days a week indoors using ergs, weights, and other equipment. The emphasis is on building strength while maintaining flexibility and endurance. We bring in weight program coaches as well as cross-fit and flexibility coaches. We have a nutritionist and psychologists on hand to ensure that our athletes gain strength in mind, spirit as well as body.

It is during these cold winter months that the athletes "earn" their achievements later in spring. The winter period is required of all athletes in order to trainand race in the spring. The only exceptions to this are athletes who are doing a high intensity sport in the winter (like swimming, basketball or swimming). Please contact us to discuss your athlete if they partake in a winter sport.

In March we transition to the water. Training remains six days a week, for 2.5 hours a day. Training will mix erg workouts with mostly on-water rowing. Boats will be selected based on each athletes ability to make a boat go fast. Erg scores in addition to technique and watt/weight measurements all contribute to how a coach fills a boat. We will race as many boats as we can during race season.

We will race in the spring at various tune-up races but our main focus is the USRowing Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in mid-May. In total, we will race in 4-6 races during the spring. Our top placed boats from Mid-Atlantics will advance to the USRowing Junior National Championships in June. This is typically held in Sarasota, FL the second week of June.

Recreational Program:

We will run several recreational programs that will meet once a week for several weeks in both the winter and spring. These camps are meant to be fun and to keep an interest in rowing. These are normally on Saturday afternoons or Sunday mornings and will run for 6 weeks. See our registration page for availability.
